Privacy First Design
VisionScan collects NO personal data. All document processing happens entirely on your device. Your documents never leave your iPhone or iPad.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
VisionScan is designed with privacy as a core principle. We explicitly do not collect any of the following:
- Personal Information: Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any identifying information
- Document Content: Scanned documents, images, text, or any document data
- Usage Analytics: How you use the app, what features you access, or usage patterns
- Device Information: Device identifiers, location data, or technical specifications
- Contacts or Photos: Access to your contacts, photo library beyond saving scanned documents
- Network Data: No data is transmitted to our servers or third parties
2. How VisionScan Works
On-Device Processing
VisionScan processes all documents entirely on your device:
- Document Scanning: Camera captures and edge detection happen locally using Apple's Vision framework
- Image Processing: Perspective correction, enhancement, and filtering occur on your device
- OCR (Text Recognition): Text extraction uses Apple's on-device machine learning models
- PDF Creation: Document compilation and export happen locally
- Storage: Documents are stored only in your device's local storage or where you choose to save them
No Internet Connection Required
VisionScan works completely offline. The app does not require an internet connection for any core functionality, ensuring your documents never leave your device.
3. Permissions We Request
VisionScan only requests permissions necessary for its core functionality:
Camera Access
- Purpose: To scan and photograph documents
- Usage: Only when you actively use the scanning feature
- Data Handling: Images are processed locally and not stored unless you save them
Photo Library Access (Optional)
- Purpose: To save scanned documents to your Photos app when you choose to do so
- Usage: Only when you explicitly tap "Save to Photos"
- Data Handling: We only write to your photo library; we don't read existing photos
Important: You can deny these permissions and still use VisionScan's core features. Camera access is only required for scanning; photo access is only needed if you want to save documents to your Photos app.
4. Data Storage and Security
Local Storage Only
All data remains on your device:
- Scanned documents are stored in the app's local container using iOS secure storage
- App settings and preferences are stored using iOS UserDefaults
- No data is synchronized to cloud services unless you explicitly export documents
- All data is protected by iOS system-level encryption and your device passcode
Document Export
When you export documents, you control where they go:
- Files App: Documents saved to Files are handled by Apple's system
- Email: Documents attached to emails are handled by your email provider
- Cloud Services: If you save to iCloud Drive, Dropbox, etc., those services' privacy policies apply
- Other Apps: When sharing to other apps, their privacy policies apply
5. Third-Party Services
VisionScan does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

- Vision Framework: For document detection and OCR (all processing on-device)
- VisionKit Framework: For the native document scanner interface
- Core Image: For image processing and enhancement
